After returning home for a few days I bought another bike, an older one which looked good for its age but turned out to be a bit of a dog.

On Friday night of August 10th I set off to Joe (Erika's brother) and Anne's in Leicester. We then loaded his people carrier and set off early Saturday morning on the long drive back to Hungary. Joe did all the driving . We stopped over night in a layby somewhere in Germany. We took sleeping bags and air beds and Joe had adapted the back of his vehicle so that we could sleep there, saving money on accomodation. We landed in Eger on Sunday evening after a long and tiring journey. The next 5 days were spent working on the Sirok house, installing a kitchen on the ground floor and creating 2 bathrooms, a walk-in wardrobe, a bedroom and a shower room in the cellar. Unfortunately we didn't finish the work but got well on with it and completed the hardest part. We worked long hours and made a huge impact. Thankyou Joe. Set off back on Saturday morning, stopped overnight once again in a lay by in Germany then briefly dropped a present in Didier's garage at 6am then hit the ferry port at 8am but unfortunately couldn't get on an earlier sailing than 2.30pm.

Arrived back at Joe and Anne's at tea time, ate then set off for home in the pouring rain on the bike. I arrived at around 11pm to a very surprised erika who wasn't expecting me until the following day :o). As much of a surprise was the tattoo I'd had done whilst in Hungary with her name in it.

Whilst in Hungary it became very apparent that Erika and I would not be able to move there in September due to finances. We discussed this when I returned and although incredibly disappointed we have decided to move next year instead when we will be in a better position to make it work.

After only being home a few days a colleague and I took 2 of the boys from work on a camping barn trip to Keswick in Cumbria. We were due to stay for 3 nights but decided to bring one of the young people back a day early due to his behaviour. At this point things went haywire and the lad who was due to go home became extremely abusive and threaned to stab my self and my colleague. After about half an hour of abuse he came to attack me and attempted to stab me in the head and face. He continued his abuse by throwing large stones at myself and my colleague. He was eventually arrested and charged with affray.

To cut a long story short, I felt unable to return to work and have now been off for nearly 3 months. The lad appeared in court and had his charges reduced, then appeared again and had his case adjourned!!

I'm now applying for another job as a countryside ranger which I hope will suit me better.

Erika and I have also set a date for our wedding. We are getting married on April 26th 2008 at The Sparth House Hotel near Accrington :o).

We then intend to leave for Hungary sometime after this but have not set a date. We will go when everything is in place.

Still hoping to drive over again in late December for New Year as I have sold my bike and bought a small van and a trailer. If we do get to go we will take as much as possible with us as there are many boxes packed and waiting to go.

Until next time..................

Back to Hungary for the Hungarian Bike Week

Erika in Germany

Paul outside bike rally

Nearly there! A welcome break in Hungary en route

Bike outside Sirok house

Well, we got there! We set off on Sunday morning at 5.30am and headed for Dover, arriving late and missing our ferry. Then across France, into Belgium and staying overnight with friends in Tongeren rather than making it to Frankfurt. A total of 500 miles. Monday morning we headed for Germany, several breaks and then into Austria. By 9.30pm Erika had really had enough on the back of the bike so we stopped overnight in Vienna. 650 miles today. Tuesday morning we headed for the Hungarian border, on through Budapest and out to Eger, a total of 300 miles.

The track to our house was treacherous, being very dry and covered in dirt and gravel.

We met up with Erika's brother, Joe and his family on Tuesday who'd been staying in Eger and travelled over to Sirok to make a list of fittings that we needed to buy ready for my next trip back in a couple of weeks.

Erika was seriously considering flying home rather than returning on the bike as the trip had been too much for her. We looked into bike prices and decided to put my bike up for sale in Hungary as it was worth more over there than in England. On Thursday we bought a tent and pitched it at the bike rally in Sirok. We stayed overnight there on Friday and Saturday and put a "for sale" sign on the bike. It sold within 3 hours! There were some great bands playing and good, cheap food and drink.

On Monday we exchanged money and documents with Tomas, the buyer of the bike :o( . Tuesday we caught the bus to Budapest and then flew back to England. It has been an eventful trip, enjoyable, relaxing and stressful all at the same time.lol.

Next year we should be living about a mile from the bike rally so it will be a lot easier to visit.

Not long to go now before we leave.

Things have been really hectic since my last post. We've nearly finished the kitchen and Erika's been busy painting other areas of the house. But there's still so much more to do.
We're due to ride out to Hungary on Sunday but my bike's still not back from the Bike shop that was checking some problems I'd been having. I'm off work sick with a really bad cold/flu and the weather's terrible. If everything comes together for Sunday morning we'll be heading down to Dover, across to Dunkirk then heading for Frankfurt where we'll stay overnight, a journey of around 600 miles on the 1st day!! All being well we'll set off Monday morning, continuing through Germany, into Austria and on to Hungary, arriving in Eger on Monday evening in time to meet up with Joe who set off last weekend. Tuesday should be spent working out what materials we will need when Joe and I return in August. The rest of the week we will buy these items in and get them to the house in Sirok. Hopefully we'll get time to spend a day at the Bike show. We set off back on the 30th, arriving home on the 31st, one day at home then back to work.

We're now heading towards the end of June and our move is getting that much closer!!
Our trip back to Hungary for Erika's uncle's funeral was as to be expected, emotional with many family members coming together for the 1st time in many years.
We've both told our bosses that we intend to leave work at the end of August and travel over to Hungary mid September, starting our new jobs in October. We've been fortunate to have both been granted career breaks so if things don't work out then we can come back to our old jobs, along with renting our house out in England rather than selling up we have as much security as possible.
Erika and I are planning on riding over to Hungary for the Hungarian Bike Week in July but instead of spending the week at the show we'll be spending most of our time sourcing materials for our new house. Then in August I'm going back with Erika's brother Joe who's kindly given up a week of his annual leave to travel to Sirok and get as much of the renovations done as possible so that we can start to rent our house out over there. The more money we can get coming in, the sooner we can stop working altogether.
And back home we have so much work to do on our house here before we can rent it out, along with working as much overtime as i can get and Erika starting a new position things are pretty stressful. Our emotions have been all over the place recently.

I thought it was time I posted another photo so this is one of my favourites, taken when we went to Turkey a couple of years ago.

Recently we've needed a bit of a break so we went camping in Siverdale at the edge of the Lake District last Friday for 2 nights. Had a great couple of days and managed to wind down and chill out a little.

Back home and we've out out the date for Erika's uncle's funeral so we'll be back to Hungary next Tuesday, returning on the Saturday. Both Erika's brothers and their wives are going, along with her mother.

Perhaps setting off on Friday the 13th wasn't such a good idea after all!!!!
Problems with my car before we set off, flight delayed, extra cost incurred with hire car.
Everything was going ok once we got there until day 3 when my mother was taken to hospital with pneumonia! There were times when we thought we might lose her, they found traces of tb on her lungs. After about 4 days she started to get a little better. Her boyfriend spent most of his time at her bedside. She was released on Sunday and we picked her up on our way to the airport to go home. She missed soooooo much :o(
On the plus side we paid the outstanding balance on our house so we now own 2 in Hungary :o). The vendor and his family are wonderful people and offered us so much help while we were there and introduced us to a friendly Dutchman (who speaks English) in the village. Thankyou.
Upon returning we felt like we hadn't had a break (especially Erika) and are planning to ride over on my bike in July for the Hungarian Bike Week held in Sirok. A week long and 15,000 bikers! We can't wait.
Found out on Sunday that one of Erika's uncles in Hungary had taken his own life, aged 94. Then, yesterday, we found out that her closest uncle in Hungary also took his own life, aged 80. We will be going over for the funeral when it is announced.

Well, only 4 days to go before we're off to Hungary again!!!
Things have been pretty stressed here lately. I've just had 3 days off after a long stretch at work and Erika's been spending more time at her sister's than here. Her sister had to move from her flat to a bungalow on Saturday with only 3 days notice so everything's been really hectic. Only the last few items to move now. Erika's been non stop and really needs this forthcoming break.
Doesn't look like we'll be able to afford another car when we go over so we're hiring one this time round. Our main concern is paying for the new house in full then we'll sort everything else out when we go for good in September.

Erika's sister returned home last week after 10 weeks in hospital. It's hard work for Erika as her sister has no movement down her right hand side but with physiotherapy this should return.
I've been busy buying things for our houses in Hungary to decorate the walls such as mounted antlers and a racoon skin...the bargains that can be had on ebay!!
Our money's dwindling so we desperately hope that we can still move out there in September. The next step is to get back there in April and pay for the house in full, then we can move on with the work that needs doing. My mother and her partner are coming with us in April, they've never been to Hungary before so everyone is very excited.

This is our new house....deposit paid, completion in April.

Ok, ok, so it's been a while since I last posted!!
So many things have happened since December 2006!
Our 2nd house, as pictured previouly fell through :o( The seller decided he couldn't wait for our re-mortgage to come through and took the house off the market. I can't describe how dissapointed I felt (and still do).
On December 22nd I had the worst work day of my life, having to have Police intervention about 6 times and the Fire Service called twice. The final straw was having a brick thrown at me through a window. Consequently I decided I needed some time off work. Upon arriving home I discovered my sister-in-law unconscious on her livingroom floor, having had a massive stroke the previous evening (she lives about 100 metres away, at the end of our avenue). So Christmas was an emotional rollercoaster ride for myself and Erika. It was touch and go as to whether her sister would survive the first few days.
After many varied emotions Erika and I decided to spend a couple of days in the Lake District on January 1st and 2nd which did us the world of good. Erika returned to work on January 4th in a different roll and I returned on January 25th.
Since then we've returned to Hungary to search for another house, which we found, by accident, on Monday of this week. It's only 10 years old and is in a fantastic position for our needs, being only 12 miles from our intended work place in Eger and ideal for renting out to tourists during Spring, Summer and Autumn. We go back in April for a holiday and our plans are still on track to emigrate in September.
